Weeks before you visit the Challenger Learning Center of KY, your teacher will prepare you for the job that you will perform during your mission to Rendezvous with a Comet, take a Voyage to Mars, or Return to the Moon.
  Before you visit.
Challenger Learning Center of KY   When you arrive at the Challenger Learning Center of KY the first thing you will notice is our beautiful building, The Clemons Science Center, here on the Campus of Hazard Community and Technical College.
You will arrive at the Challenger Center excited about your mission. You will be experiencing things that you have never experienced before and you will be performing important tasks as Astronauts and Mission Control Specialists.   Arrival at CLCKY
Saturn   Ever been this close to Saturn before? Well get ready for all kinds of “Out of this World” experiences when you come to the Challenger Center.
During part of your mission you will be a specialist in Mission Control. This is our control center here on earth and directs the operations of the astronauts that are up in space. You will need to have good reading, computer, and problem solving skills to manage operations in Mission Control.
  Mission Control
NAV officer   You might be a NAV officer in Mission Control and have to find the perfect spot to launch a Probe into a Comet. That’s what this Mission Control Specialist is doing!
Ever dream of being an astronaut? When you fly your mission at the Challenger Center part of your job will be to perform important experiments in the Space Station just like this young astronaut.   Be an astronaut!
Challenger science lab   Talk about an AWESOME science lab!! Take a look at our space station laboratory. Better be prepared to do your job when you get here because the mission’s success could depend on you!
Of course after the Space Shuttle docks with the Space Station you can’t just walk in the way you would walk into your classroom. You must enter the space station through the special Airlock which allows us to enter and depart the space station without depressurizing.   Airlock
Life Support Officers   While in the Space Station you will have important tasks that will need to be completed to assure that your mission is successful. These Life Support officers are testing the Space Station’s water supply.
These engineers are assembling a probe. They must test the electrical circuit of each part to make sure it is working properly before the probe is launched. NASA uses probes to remotely collect data on objects in and out of our solar system.   Engineers assembling a probe
  Life Support equipment
Space Station Robot

You must use specialized equipment when you work in the Space Station. Robots and other testing tools are used to collect important scientific information about our mission. If you’re on the Isolation Team or the Life Support Team you will use equipment like you see here.

If you’re a scientist on the remote team you will use a specialized test chamber, called a Glove Box, to do important experiments such as finding mass and volume of meteoroids, doing chlorophyll tests on plants, and testing Mars soil. Better know your science basics at this station!   Testing Mars Soil
Communications officer   Communications and Team Work are important concepts used during your mission at the Challenger Learning Center of KY. Our communications officer must verbally relay important information between Mission Control and our astronauts in the Space Station.
Don’t worry about knowing what to do when you arrive at the Challenger Center. In addition to your teacher preparing you for the mission, you will have a mission commander that will be there to assist you if you have problems and to assure that you have a successful mission.   Mission commander
Working as a team!   So if your classmates all work together as a team and you have been adequately prepared for the science, math, and technology challenges that await you then the mission should be successful.
And a huge Hero’s Welcome will be waiting when you return back to earth after successfully completing your mission.

Do you have the “Right Stuff” for a Challenger Learning Center Mission??
  A Hero's Welcome!
