The Challenger Learning Center of KY’s curriculum committee recently received a report that showed that the gap in science index scores between schools in eastern Kentucky versus Kentucky schools as a whole was narrowing especially in the sub domain of earth and space science. The Challenger Learning Center of Kentucky, with our mission of providing “positive, interactive learning experiences that excite and inspire long-term interest in mathematics, science, and technology through space exploration,” is proud to be a part of our schools’ success. We have worked closely with teachers, administrators, and the KY Department of Education to align all of our programs to Kentucky Program of Studies, Core Content for Assessment and to model CATS testing practices. Our partnership with Kentucky schools is working!

Highlights of the 5 Year trend data report are:
  1. 7th grade science index scores in eastern Kentucky schools had increased by 11.7 points verses a 6.875 increase by Kentucky as a whole
  2. 7th grade science index scores had increased by over 21% versus an increase in the state index of only 11%.
  3. Eastern Kentucky schools moved a greater percentage of novice and apprentice learners into the proficient and distinguished categories than did the state.
  4. Eastern KY students are improving in their knowledge of science, particularly in the sub domain of Earth and Space Science.
